| Frequently Asked Questions | Answers | |
| If I do not have a degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering, can I still be admitted to the program? | |
Students with degrees in science or an area of engineering other than MAE need to take a set of core courses, determined by your area of interest, within the first year and obtain grades of A or B in each course. Please contact Dr. Lynn Cozort for more information. Students with technology or non-science degrees need to pursue a Bachelors degree in engineering prior to admission. |

On average, the GRE Verbal scores of admitted students are in the mid-400s; Quantitative scores are in the high 700s; and the Writing scores average about 4.5. Note that GRE scores are valid for five years from the date of examination. The Engineering-specific GRE is not required. |

| Do you offer financial assistance to students? | ![]() |
There are some research and teaching assistantships available. Once you have been admitted you are automatically considered for any positions that may be available. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee funding for all students. |
| If I am awarded a teaching assistantship, will the funding continue for the duration of my degree? | |
No, teaching assistantships are awarded on an as-needed basis. Therefore, if your teaching assistantship, for example, is only for the Fall term, there is no guarantee that you will receive funding for the following Spring term. |
| If I have been awarded an assistantship and choose to defer my admission, will I be awarded that financial assistance the next semester? | |
If you have been offered a research or teaching assistantship, there is no guarantee that the funding opportunity will also defer. |
| When will I be notified of the decision of my application? | |
Once you have submitted all of your application materials, the Graduate College will forward the information to the Department. Application materials are reviewed by the MAE Graduate Affairs Committee, the Director of Graduate Studies and the Department Chair. Following the evaluation, a recommendation is made to the Graduate College regarding admission. Generally applications submitted by the December 1 deadline for a Fall term will be notified by April 15. Applications submitted by the spring deadline of July 1 are generally notified by November 15. |
